So, I was in an ad...
I was given the opportunity to work on an ad for Webjet, actually doing some proper acting. I enjoyed it, but unfortunately the planned sequence with the basset hound didn't make the cut.
I had a few laughs with my screen 'wife' Sarah Sutherland: she's a gem. I couldn't think of a better person to spend eight hours NOT eating pasta with... She did an amazing job finding every possible way to deliver that last "Happy now...?" line. Truly professional. The ad looks great. You wouldn't know there were about thirty people hiding in behind bench tops and in doorways. I must say I do love being on set. |

Paul's uncanny impersonations have featured in sketch comedy programs that have been a staple of his career from 1998 (Totally Full Frontal TEN NETWORK) to COMEDY INC (NINE NETWORK) and most recently Wednesday Night Fever (ABC). Over his career Paul has perfected impersonations of TV and film personalities like Kochie fromSunrise, Dr Phil, Jerry Springer, Tom Cruise and Bert Newton, as well as politicians such as John Howard, Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott. He has featured in three Logie-nominated sketch comedy TV shows and was himself nominated for an AFI Award in 2006 for his work on Comedy Inc: The Late Shift. In 2013, Paul's political impersonations appeared on Wednesday Night Fever, where he appeared in the same sketch as Kevin Rudd, Tony Abbott, Julian Assange and Malcolm Turnbull. Paul brings years of experience as a performer and writer to the realm of corporate entertainment. He has been invited to perform for audiences at numerous events - usually impersonating a famous Australian like ex-Prime Ministers Julia Gillard and KRudd, or breakfast TV celebrity David Koch. |
- As Julia Gillard, Paul suggested each Australian household be provided a lump of unprocessed iron ore, in celebration of the passing of the mining tax.
- At an event for the Photon Group of marketing companies, Paul, as Kochie, introduced the real Kochie...
- To a gathering of property developers in Melbourne, Paul's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made it a priority of her government that a wind farm be built - right outside the Opposition Leader's mouth.
- As Kevin Rudd, Paul appeared at the Movie Extra Awards in 2008, to say an indigenous-style 'sorry' for Australia's lacklustre performance in international cinema.
It's all cheeky fun. Paul is gently irreverent and warmly inclusive in his humour and does not use language that may offend. He wants the audience to feel as though a person of significance - a TV personality or a politician, whomever Paul is asked to impersonate - is addressing them specifically in a way that is not only hilariously entertaining but highly relevant as well.
Over the last few years Paul, as ex-PM Kevin Rudd, has entertained participants at functions held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, Crown Casino and Twin Waters Resort, Maroochydore, Queensland, at events as diverse as the Bain Fallon Equine Vets Conference, an awards night for the peak body representing property developers in Victoria (UDIA) and the Western Star Trucks Stand at the International Truck and Trailer Show 2010.
In 2011, he performed as PM Julia for Lauriston Press fine art gallery at Kyneton and Maryborough, for Geelong Tourism at Federation Square, and for mining engineering consultancy ATC Williams at the Woodlands Golf Course, Mordialloc, and in 2013 he performed as Kevin Rudd on Election Day in Canberra at a Googong Lifestyle Development branding event. In 2014, Paul was invited to perform as both Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd for the Eyre Peninsula Local Government Conference in Tumby Bay, SA. Paul is looking forward to entertaining corporate clients with his distinctive impersonation of Australia's new PM Malcolm Turnbull. He enjoyed rousing members of the local Greens party as ex- PM Tony Abbott and is looking forward to exploiting this new audience... stay tuned...
