corporate entertainment

Paul McCarthy works as an actor, writer, live performance director, voice artist, cabaret performer and comedian.

Paul's uncanny impersonations have been seen on the small screen in sketch comedy programs that have been a staple of his career from 1998 (Totally Full Frontal TEN NETWORK) to the recent (Double Take SEVEN NETWORK). Over the last decade Paul has perfected impersonations of TV and film personalities like Dr Phil, Jerry Springer, Tom Cruise and Bert Newton, as well as politicians such as Jeff Kennett, John Howard, Kevin Rudd and Peter Costello. He has featured in three Logie-nominated sketch comedy TV shows and was himself nominated for an AFI Award in 2006 for his work on Comedy Inc: The Late Shift. More recently, his impersonation of Julia Gillard appeared on Ben Elton Live From Planet Earth and The National IQ Test for the Nine Network, and he appeared as Kevin Rudd on the ABC's At Home With Julia

Paul brings years of experience as a performer and writer to the realm of corporate entertainment. He has been invited to entertain audiences at numerous corporate events - usually impersonating a famous Australian like Prime Minister Julia Gillard, ex-PM KRudd, or breakfast TV celebrity David Koch.

  • As PM Julia Gillard, Paul suggested each Australian household be provided a lump of unprocessed iron ore, in celebration of the passing of the mining tax.
  • At an event for the Photon Group of marketing companies, Paul, as Kochie, introduced the real Kochie...
  • To a gathering of property developers in Melbourne, Paul's Prime Minister made it a priority of his government that a wind farm be built - right outside the Opposition Leader's mouth.
  • As Kevin Rudd, Paul appeared at the Movie Extra Awards in 2008, to say an indigenous-style 'sorry' for Australia's lacklustre performance in international cinema.

As you can see, Paul is not a 'one-size-fits-all' performer. He creates individually scripted, tailor-made performances that include up-to-the-minute research and a thorough awareness of the issues and concerns of the group, as well as - if appropriate - select information about participants at the event.

It's all cheeky fun. Paul is gently irreverent and warmly inclusive in his humour and does not use language that may offend. He wants the audience to feel as though a person of significance - a TV personality or a politician, whomever Paul is asked to impersonate - is addressing them specifically in a way that is not only hilariously entertaining but highly relevant as well.

Over the last two years alone, Paul, as ex-PM Kevin Rudd, has entertained participants at functions held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, Crown Casino and Twin Waters Resort, Maroochydore, Queensland, at events as diverse as the Bain Fallon Equine Vets Conference, an awards night for the peak body representing property developers in Victoria (UDIA) and the Western Star Trucks Stand at the International Truck and Trailer Show 2010.

In 2011, he has performed as PM Julia for Lauriston Press fine art gallery at Kyneton and Maryborough, Geelong Tourism at Federation Square, and mining engineering consultancy ATC Williams at the Woodlands Golf Course, Mordialloc.

Always up to date, most recently Paul has been adding to his repertoire by co-writing and performing as incumbent PM Julia Gillard in sketches uploaded to YouTube on channel TheGreatBigNew and as Tony Abbott to promote the Seven Network's 2010 Federal Election coverage.
